Mariam Lashkhi Delivered a Speech at the Event Dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science
The Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Mariam Lashkhi, delivered a speech at an event dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

Mariam Lashkhi congratulated women scientists on their professional day and spoke about the importance of state support and the development of science.

“According to data from the National Statistics Office, 55% of researchers in our country are women. While globally women account for only about one-third of scientists on average, and in some countries their share does not exceed 10%, this figure is a particular source of pride for our country. Your work, creative energy, and dedication are not only a strong foundation for Georgian science but also a tangible example for future generations. Despite significant steps taken, scientific fields still require even greater strengthening from the state”, - Mariam Lashkhi stated.

The participants of the event were also addressed by the Education, Science and Youth Minister, Givi Mikanadze; the Deputy Chairperson of the Tbilisi Municipal Assembly, Tinatin Nibloshvili; and the Director General of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, Teimuraz Dochviri.

Honorary awards were presented to women scientists by the Education, Science and Youth Minister, Givi Mikanadze, and the Director General of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, Teimuraz Dochviri.

The award ceremony was organized by the Education, Science and Youth Ministry and the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia.

Members of the legislative and executive authorities, as well as representatives of the scientific community, attended the event.

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science has been observed on 11 February since 2015, pursuant to a resolution of the UN General Assembly.
