The Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, and the Chair of the European Integration Committee, Maka Botchorishvili, met with the Vice-President of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany, Katrin Göring-Eckardt, together with the members of the accompanying delegation.

The parties discussed giving Georgia the EU candidate status and the accompanying procedures.

The Georgian MPs reiterated the willingness of the government on carrying out the European Commission's recommendations and talk about the importance of this process.

According to Nikoloz Samkharadze, the German colleague was curious about how the general public and the political elite felt about the granting of candidate status.

"We expressed our disappointment that Georgia did not receive candidate status, but we also made it clear that the recommendations would be carefully implemented and that we sincerely hoped the European Union would reach a favorable decision. To this, the Vice President responded that if we resolve all of these issues, Germany will support us in obtaining candidate status", - Nikoloz Samkharadze stated after the meeting.

According to Maka Botchorishvili, it was important to familiarize the German colleagues with the positions and the vision that exists in Georgia in terms of integration into the European Union and the implementation of recommendations.

"Within the European Union, Georgia will receive support from Germany. It is crucial that we keep talking about these concerns with our partners. Georgia is a significant partner for Germany, according to the Vice Speaker of the German Bundestag. Additionally, it was highlighted that it is crucial for Germany to strengthen its ties with Georgia and to help our state with its European integration", - Maka Botchorishvili remarked.
