Nikoloz Samkharadze Met with the President of the Italian Senate’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence

Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze, together with a delegation, is on an official visit to Italy.
Within the framework of the visit, a meeting was held with the President of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee of the Italian Senate, Maurizio Gasparri.
The parties discussed bilateral relations between Georgia and Italy, as well as priority areas of cooperation. Particular attention was paid to the further development of ties at the parliamentary level.
The meeting also focused on regional security challenges and ongoing conflicts, including Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the situation surrounding Iran.
Nikoloz Samkharadze informed his Italian counterpart about the difficult situation in Georgia’s occupied regions and the threats stemming from Russia.
Special attention was devoted to Georgia’s important role in ensuring the energy security of the European Union, as well as in fully utilizing the potential of the “Middle Corridor”.
The parties also discussed Georgia’s agenda for accession to the European Union, including problematic issues in relations between Tbilisi and Brussels.
The important role of Italy in overcoming these difficulties and restoring open dialogue between Georgia and the European Union was emphasized.
The Georgian side also informed the Italian senator about ongoing economic reforms in Georgia and the country’s economic growth indicators.
For its part, the Italian side once again reaffirmed its strong support for Georgia’s European integration.
It was noted that Georgia is an important partner for Italy, and therefore, the Italian side is ready to support the country in achieving its foreign policy priorities.
Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze is visiting Rome, together with a delegation, on an official visit to the Italian Republic.
The delegation also includes Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Italian Republic Vakhtang Turnava and First Deputy Chair of the Legal Issues Committee Tornike Cheishvili.
