The Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, held a meeting with M. Christian Cambon, the Chairman of the Foreign and Defense Committee of the Senate of the French Republic.

The discussions focused on bilateral relations, the current regional situation, and the significant role of Georgia in ensuring the security of the Black Sea and the broader European security architecture.

NATO enlargement and Georgia's contributions to military missions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Central African Republic were also discussed. Georgia's important role in promoting global security was emphasized during the meeting.

Furthermore, the meeting with the Chairman of the Foreign and Defense Committee of the Senate of the French Republic involved conversations about the progress in implementing the 12 recommendations put forth by the European Commission, as well as the geopolitical significance of granting Georgia the status of a candidate country for the European Union.

"During the meeting, discussions revolved around the evolving perspectives within EU member states concerning the enlargement of the European Union. It was acknowledged that there is now a broader understanding of the geopolitical significance of this matter. The French counterpart emphasized the importance of Georgia having a well-defined action plan for EU membership, emphasizing that obtaining candidate status and initiating accession negotiations are crucial steps in this regard”, - Nikoloz Samkharadze noted.

David Songhulashvili and Eliso Bolkvadze from the Parliament of Georgia participated in the meeting.

The Georgian parliamentary delegation, led by the Speaker of the Parliament, is on an official visit to France.
