Nino Burjanadze Held Press-Conference
Nino Burjanadze, Chairperson of the Parliament of Georgia, held a press-conference regarding the USA President George Bush’s visit.
In the beginning Nino Burjanadze noted: ”This visit was of historic importance and a very serious sign for the whole of the world indicating the attitude of the USA President towards Georgia and the problems of Georgia. I am very happy and can with full responsibility declare that the process and the results of the visit surmounted the expectations. I can say this owing to the talks conducted with the USA President, the State Secretary and other representatives of the guests’ delegation. The USA leadership has the same attitude to the visit.”
”Yesterday the whole of Georgia and the world observed the kind attitude of the USA President towards us and teh respect he showed towards the Georgian culture. He really expected much owing to the whole of the world observing our ”Revolution of Roses” and supporting the new governmnet of Georgia, its President and the Parliament, the Georgian people”-she observed.
”I consider that with regard to the events unfolding in Georgia, we have provided the USA leadership with absolutely objective picture. We really did have the reason to be proud, many problems have been solved-a serious fight has been conducted against corruption, a significant increase was observed in the country in terms of volume of businesses, the process of strengthening the democratic state structures has been started”,-she stated.
At the same time, she said that the representatives of the government of Georgia have also mentioned about the unsolved problems Georgia is facing at present.
”I have to necessarily underline the fact that the USA President has met the Chairperson of the Parliament and its delegation. I am happy for that”-Nino Burjanadze noted. Saying this, the Chairperson highlighted about the importance of strengthening the Parliamentarism in Georgia.
Nino Burjanadze mentioned as well about the importance of independence of the judicial branch of the government, which is not yet reached in Georgia and that the government would spare no efforts to fill this gap.
The Chairperson noted that regarding the questions of Georgia’s entering into the membership of the NATO, territorial integrity of Georgia, conflicts’solution and withdrawal of the Russian military bases from Georgia, President Bush’s support was too important.
As to the isuue of the gasline, Nino Burjanadze said that we all have to try to make Georgia energetically independent state.
