Meeting of Opposition MPs with Representatives of the Venice Commission

The members of the parliamentary opposition met the representatives of the Venice Commission who were on a working visit to Georgia. At the meeting, the parties talked about the de-oligarchization bill.
"The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the issue of de-oligarchization, which is an important recommendation from the European Union, and to seek the opinion of the Venice Commission regarding the proposed law. The focus of their visit was specifically on the draft law put forward by the government. However, it is widely understood that in the context of absolute state capture, a systemic approach is needed to effectively address the issue in Georgia.
Regrettably, the current government has rejected such a systematic approach, and this is reflected in the proposed law. It is crucial to address the issue of oligarchic influence comprehensively and implement measures that tackle the root causes of the problem. The recommendations and insights of the European Union and the Venice Commission play a significant role in shaping effective policies and legislation in this regard”, - Tinatin Bokuchava, Chair of the faction United National Movement – United Opposition "Strength is in Unity" stated.
According to Khatuna Samnidze, Chair of the Reforms Group, MPs presented their opinions to the representatives of the Venice Commission on the bill on de-oligarchization. "The main direction of the conclusion of the Venice Commission was the need for a systematic approach, and the discussion took place on this very issue at the meeting”, - Khatuna Samnidze noted.
Ana Natsvlishvili, Beka Liluashvili, Khatuna Samnidze, Herman Sabo, Tinatin Bokuchava and Fridon Injia attended the meeting with the representatives of the Venice Commission.
