The Vice-Speaker, Kakhaber Kutchava participated in the International Conference “Making Global Goals Local Business“ organized by the UN Global Compact with the agenda of “Future is Green and Inclusive”.

The attendees discussed the green economy, innovations, green financing and partnership to achieve the sustainable development agenda. K. Kutchava introduced the practice and innovative methods established by the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee.

“We discussed the green economy as an economic development model mitigating the environmental risks, ecologic problems and aiming at sustainable development and mitigation of a negative impact on the environment. We underlined the importance of the green lifestyle from a long-term perspective. I introduced the practice and innovative methods established by the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, such are thematic inquiry practice and oversight on enforcement of the normative acts. These methods have been established for the first time and envisaged the oversight of the enforcement of the legal changes related to the e-engine vehicles. These mechanisms are characterized by the high quality of transparency and all parties concerned are engaged, including the civil society, private sector and international organizations”, - he stated.

In his speech, he welcomed the active engagement of the private sector in the green economy policy realization by the Parliament and underlined their role in this process.

The panel discussions were attended by the legislative and executive authorities, business sector and international organizations from Georgia, Ukraine, Poland, Turkey and Belarus.

It is the first time when Georgia hosts this Conference, which is backed by the Swedish Government, IFC and SECO.
