Parliament Unanimously Approving Changes to Law on Common Courts in I reading

The Parliament approved the changes to the Law on Common Courts in I reading, which was introduced by the Chair of the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, Mikheil Sarjveladze.
“The change derives from the 11th point of the twelve-point recommendations. The issue has to do with encouraging the common courts to actively put the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights into action. Thus, the working group, which the committee established, was given the task of coming up with as many ideas as possible, through which such mechanisms would be created to be reflected in Georgian law, as a result of which we would have efficient mechanisms to encourage the judiciary to implement the ECHR's precedents as actively as possible”, - the rapporteur noted.
As he added, the establishment of the Working Group was successful and the work involved the representatives of professional and academic circles, relevant state institutions, the civil sector, and politicians.
There are 11 bills in the legislative package. Laws on the Georgian Constitutional Court, the Prosecutor's Office, Normative Acts, Lawyers, International Treaties, codes of Criminal Procedure, Civil Procedure, Administrative Procedure, Administrative Offenses, and General Administrative Law are also amended in addition to the laws on general courts.
The speaker emphasized the importance of making changes to each law.
"It is crucial to incorporate the Strasbourg Court's case law more actively into our internal state law. This is crucial because the jurisprudence of this court has a stellar reputation. The advancement of human rights and the constant raising of standards are handled here with the utmost intellectual sophistication and academic quality. Therefore, it only makes sense that the accuracy of our legislation in this area is crucial, and the proposed package will help to achieve that", - Mikheil Sarjveladze clarified.
The representatives of the parliamentary opposition also expressed their support for the legislative package.
“We consider support for these draft laws principally important”, - Ana Natsvlishvili stated on behalf of the political group “Lelo – Partnership for Georgia”.
Ana Buchukuri, on behalf of the political party "For Georgia" and Levan Ioseliani, on behalf of the parliamentary group "Citizens" also announced their support for the package.
