According to the draft law, the import of goods transferred into state ownership will be exempt from excise tax.
As stated by the presenter, First Vice Chair of Georgian Dream Levan Machavariani, following the adoption of the amendment, legal procedures related to the transfer of excisable goods into state ownership will be simplified.
He also noted that, under the current legislation, the import of property transferred into state ownership is exempt from VAT and import tax. Therefore, according to him, it is appropriate for the amendment to preserve the principles of consistency and neutrality within the tax system and to extend a similar approach to excise tax as well.
