Parliament Deliberating Draft Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence in II Reading

During the second reading, the Parliament resumed deliberations on the draft law on Transparency of Foreign Influence, which was introduced by the "Georgian Dream" faction as a legislative initiative. Anri Okhanashvili, the Chairman of the Legal Issues Committee, presented the issue during the session.
MPs raised inquiries regarding the first article of the draft law, which delineates its purpose and scope. Anri Okhanashvili clarified that the draft law aims to promote transparency and is aligned with the directive of the European Union. He further elaborated that, according to the EU directive, funding from a third country is sufficient grounds for an organization to be deemed as representing the interests of a foreign country.
Discussions also ensued regarding the second and third articles of the draft law, which delineate the foreign power and the organizations acting on behalf of such foreign power.
The Parliament will continue the article-by-article consideration of the draft law during the upcoming plenary session tomorrow.
