The Parliament Heard the Chairperson of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia

At a joint session of the Culture Committee and the Interim Commission on the Restoration of Territorial Integrity and De-occupation, Members of Parliament heard a report by Giorgi Jincharadze, Chairperson of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, regarding the government’s activities in the field of culture and its future plans.

At the closed-format meeting, Giorgi Jincharadze presented a report prepared by the Government of Abkhazia, which addressed the state of cultural heritage monuments in the occupied territory of Abkhazia.

He also spoke about the government’s future plans and the measures planned for 2026 in the cultural sector.

“At the joint session, together with the participants, we discussed all the key issues related to culture and the promotion of culture. During the discussion, a number of interesting issues were identified, on which the Government of Abkhazia will continue its work,” - Giorgi Jincharadze stated.

The issues discussed were summarized by the Chair of the Commission and First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, Giorgi Volski.

“The presentation of the report by the Chairperson of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia was conducted in an engaging manner. The speaker spoke in detail about the condition of cultural monuments and cultural heritage located in the occupied territory of Abkhazia. In a discussion format, together with field experts and representatives of state institutions, we discussed what needs to be done to highlight the shared historical heritage that exists between us and the Abkhaz people. It is important that the restoration of territorial integrity in the future be preceded by the reunification of societies divided by war. Naturally, in this context, the condition of cultural monuments, their future, and the topic of unified cultural heritage as a whole are matters of particular importance”, - Giorgi Volski stated.

According to him, significant resources exist in this area, and in order to consolidate these resources, a strategic vision will be prepared in the near future.

The joint session was attended by members of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, cultural figures, and field experts.
