Head of State Security Service of Georgia, Grigol Liluashvili Reporting on Covert Operations and Special Programs of Service in 2021

On January 24, the Head of the State Security Service of Georgia, Grigol Liluashvili, presented a report on the covert activities and special programs carried out by the agency in 2021 to the Trust Group of the Parliament.
"Hearing about SSS's work over the previous year was both important and fascinating. The Head of the Agency went into great depth on the threats and challenges that our country is facing, as well as the steps that are being taken to prevent and neutralize them. Following the report, we posed questions to the rapporteur, who responded with detailed clarifications. We are in a very tough and complex security context, where we must deal with dynamic threats on the one hand, while also protecting our national interests and bolstering the country's security on the other. The Security Service has made significant efforts in this direction. The importance and value of security experts' work should be emphasized”, - Irakli Beraia, Head of the Trust Group and chairman of the Defense and Security Committee stated.
The Trust Group is the most important parliamentary control mechanism over the defense and security sector, which oversees it through a variety of tools.
According to the Rules of Procedure, the agencies will submit a report to the Trust Group on the covert activities and special programs carried out in the previous year, no later than April 15.
In 2022, the first meeting of the Group was dedicated to the hearing of the State Security Service.
