Shalva Papuashvili Met with the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, met with the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova.

Shalva Papuashvili expressed his gratitude to his Azerbaijani counterpart for the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation, led by Sahiba Gafarova, paying tribute to the memory of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, and for attending the funeral ceremony of His Holiness.

During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the multifaceted and fruitful cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In recognition of her outstanding and long-standing contribution to strengthening inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries, Shalva Papuashvili awarded Sahiba Gafarova the Honorary Medal of the Parliament.

The parties reaffirmed their readiness to further deepen the strategic partnership.

The positive dynamics of high-level visits were highlighted, with particular attention given to the significance of the visit of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to Georgia.

The strong ties between the legislative bodies of the two countries were positively assessed, both at the level of the Speakers and among sectoral committees and friendship groups.

The parties also discussed the situation in the South Caucasus region, emphasizing the importance of peace and security. Readiness to continue work on strategically important regional projects was also underlined.

The meeting took place in Istanbul, Turkey, within the framework of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The delegation, led by the Speaker, includes the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, and the Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Maia Bitadze.
