Shalva Papuashvili to David Usupashvili: Thank you, Mr. David, as the former Speaker of the Parliament, for your solidarity; this is what this regulation implies

Plenary 05 Oct 2023
Shalva Papuashvili to David Usupashvili: Thank you, Mr. David, as the former Speaker of the Parliament, for your solidarity; this is what this regulation implies

"Thank you, Mr. David, as the former Speaker of the Parliament, for your solidarity. It seems that this regulation aims to maintain a clear distinction between members of the Parliament and employees of the administration when it comes to interacting with journalists in designated briefing areas. Your explanation helps to understand the intention behind this regulation", - Shalva Papuashvili affirmed in response to the remarks of the former Speaker of the Parliament, David Usupashvili. Usupashvili pointed out that the regulation, applicable to faction office employees within the parliamentary premises, who are also affiliated with a political party, fairly prohibits the use of briefing areas for delivering statements.

As mentioned by Shalva Papuashvili, the draft regulation has been submitted for feedback.

"Mr. David, I can even read out this regulation to you. By the way, it has not been adopted yet; it is a draft proposed by the Secretary-General, and accordingly, it has been sent out for feedback.

"An employee is prohibited from communicating with journalists in the space designated for briefing for the Members of the Parliament of Georgia without the consent of the public relations and information department of the office." This regulation has also been included in the security order, which has been published and applies to visitors of the Parliament. There have been cases where visitors to the Parliament stood at the briefing area and conducted briefings”, - Shalva Papuashvili stated.
