Shalva Papuashvili met with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, met with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş.
Shalva Papuashvili expressed his condolences to his Turkish counterpart over the tragic incidents that occurred in recent days in schools in Turkey, which resulted in casualties.
He also thanked his Turkish colleague for successfully organizing the 152nd IPU General Assembly and for the warm hospitality.
The parties noted that Georgia and Turkey are connected by longstanding, fruitful cooperation and strong people-to-people ties.
During the meeting, they discussed the further development of parliamentary relations and the intensification of regional parliamentary formats. It was noted that Georgia will host a trilateral meeting of the foreign relations committees of the parliaments of Georgia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan.
The sides also reviewed ongoing developments in the region and globally, emphasizing the importance of ensuring peace and stability. The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament particularly highlighted Georgia’s contribution to strengthening regional peace.
The meeting was held within the framework of the 152nd IPU General Assembly, taking place in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey. The delegation led by the Speaker includes the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, and the Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Maia Bitadze.
