Meeting of Shalva Papuashvili with President of Hungary

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, met with the President of Hungary, H.E. Tamás Sulyok.

During the meeting, both parties highlighted the positive dynamics in Georgian-Hungarian relations. The Hungarian President emphasized, that Georgia is a significant strategic partner for Hungary in the South Caucasus region. He noted that despite challenging geopolitical conditions, both countries have succeeded in preserving their national identity, culture, and language. The President also highlighted the strong historical and religious ties between Georgia and Hungary, which contribute to mutual understanding between the nations.

The discussion touched on various areas of cooperation, including trade and economy, energy, education, culture, and tourism. Shalva Papuashvili emphasized the fruitful parliamentary collaboration between the two countries.

The conversation also covered Georgia’s aspirations for European Union membership. Sh. Papuashvili stated that Georgia will be ready for EU membership by 2030.

The President of Hungary reaffirmed Hungary’s unwavering support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and its European future.

The meeting took place as part of an official visit by Shalva Papuashvili and his accompanying parliamentary delegation to Hungary. The delegation included the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze; the Chair of the European Integration Committee, Levan Makhashvili; the First Deputy Chair of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee, Irakli Mezurnishvili; and the Deputy Chair of the Georgian Dream parliamentary faction, Genrietta Tsitsava.
