"Today, the Parliament adopted the package of electoral reform in the third reading and thus accomplished several months of work. Finally, we have disposed of a package of fundamental reforms in six different areas: the electoral system, the election administration, the election campaign, the voting procedure, the counting procedures and the election disputes”, - Sh. Ppauashvili stated.

According to him, the legislative package contained 20 particularly important reform points, of which only 5 were provided for in the April 19 agreement, and 15 were identified and agreed upon by the working group during the work process.

"It is important that the parties to the April 19 agreement supported the reform package, but at the same time, it should be emphasized that the Lelo did not endorse this document. They ate the only party to the April 19 agreement that did not support the changes with the United National Movement. This, once again, emphasizes that the party "Lelo" returns to its natural environment and stands where the "National Movement" is”, - Sh. Papuashvili remarked.

According to him, the second important stage is the implementation of the law - "I am sure that the implementation process will also go with consent. This law and the procedures outlined in it will not leave any open questions and exclude any speculation regarding the elections”.

According to Levan Ioseliani, a member of the political group Citizens, today is a historic day as the Parliament adopted amendments to the Election Code, according to which, for the first time in the history of Georgia, the electoral environment is being changed fundamentally.

"The election code is being changed in such a way that falsification, manipulation and other similar actions will be impossible. This is a precondition for the elections in Georgia to be held in a calm environment. I am very happy that other opposition parties, upon their entry to the Parliament, joined the work process and took part, but it is unfortunate that some parties did not support the legislative package".

As the Vice-Speaker pointed out, it was also critical that a precedent was made in the tenth convocation Parliament when the opposition and the ruling party were able to work together on an issue that was far more vital to the country than partisan concerns – “We, the citizens, along with the Georgian Dream, have established a precedent, and I feel that the opposition should work with the ruling party on such problems. When there is no difference in state concerns, this is the most correct type of democracy and legislative activity”.
