At the Sports Committee sitting, the President of the Georgian Figure Skating Federation Was Heard

At a sitting of the Sports Committee, the President of the Georgian Figure Skating Federation, Maka Giorgobiani, spoke about the current state of figure skating in Georgia, international achievements, and measures supporting its development.

The President of the Federation presented information on the results achieved in recent years by athletes competing under the Georgian flag, including medals won at the Olympic Games and international tournaments.

“Our athletes performed worthily at the Olympic Games and won historic medals. They once again demonstrated that Georgia is a country with strong sporting traditions and a spirit of victory. Over the past two sports seasons, Georgian athletes participated in 48 international tournaments and won 22 gold, 18 silver, and 10 bronze medals”, - Maka Giorgobiani stated.

She also spoke about the results achieved at the 2026 Olympic Games, as well as at World and European Championships. She noted that out of 35 countries competing for Olympic licenses, only five, including Georgia, secured licenses in all categories. In the overall medal standings among European countries, Georgia ranked second after France. Regarding the European Championship held in Sheffield, Maka Giorgobiani highlighted that Nika Egadze, as well as the pair of Luka Berulava and Anastasiia Metelkina, won gold medals.

The President of the Federation also addressed issues related to ice rink sports infrastructure. She noted that the state has implemented important projects, and that international-standard ice arenas are currently operating in Tbilisi and Batumi. This enables Georgia to host international tournaments and provide proper training conditions for the younger generation interested in figure skating. Speaking about future plans, she emphasized the importance of promoting figure skating, discovering new talented athletes, and achieving success on the international stage.

The Sports Committee took note of the report. The Committee Chair, Viktor Sanikidze, thanked the President of the Federation, her team, coaches, and judges for their work. He noted that Georgian figure skating has great potential, as evidenced by recent achievements. Viktor Sanikidze wished the Federation continued success and awarded the President, veteran athletes, coaches, and judges with certificates of appreciation.
