Sports and Youth Issues Committee Inspecting Sports Infrastructure in Telavi

The members of the Sports and Youth Issues Committee inspected the sports infrastructure in Telavi. The offsite meeting of the committee started with a meeting with Giorgi Aladashvili, the state representative of Kakheti, and Levan Andriashvili, the mayor of Telavi municipality.
"In recent years, substantial progress has been made in the Kakheti region regarding sports infrastructure. A total of 194 sports fields and 27 sports halls have been rehabilitated, and 108 new sports fields and 19 sports halls have been constructed. Plans are in place for further significant projects aimed at developing sports infrastructure in the municipalities of the region", - Giorgi Aladashvili stated.
After the meeting with the representatives of the local government, the members of the committee visited the tennis courts, the sports hall, the rehabilitated Givi Chokheli stadium, the chess house, and the sports palace.
"Committee members were pleasantly surprised by the state of sports infrastructure in Telavi. The city boasts well-maintained facilities for various sports, including football, rugby, basketball, tennis, and a two-hall sports complex suitable for high-level tournaments. However, there is a challenge related to the financial support needed for basketball and rugby teams to rent these facilities for training. During the budget planning process, it is important that sports federations pay increased attention to supporting sports events and teams in municipalities", - the Chairman of the Committee, Irakli Medzmariashvili, stated.
Zaza Lominadze, a member of the Sports and Youth Issues Committee, mentioned that significant efforts are being made for the construction and renovation of sports infrastructure in the region. However, he also noted that there are still several challenges that the local government is actively addressing.
"The crucial factor is that the region's approach to sports and the policies pursued by its leadership are in the right direction. Such an approach will always receive support from the parliamentary committees", - Zaza Lominadze noted.
The members of the Sports and Youth Issues Committee will continue to inspect the sports infrastructure facilities in the Kakheti region.
