Address by Tamar Taliashvili at the International Conference “Georgia against Counterfeiting and Piracy”

The First Deputy Chair of the Education and Science Committee, Tamar Taliashvili attended the 6th International Conference “Georgia against Counterfeiting and Piracy organized by the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia “Sakpatenti” and the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the United States Department of Commerce in Batumi.

In her speech, T. Taliashvili put an emphasis on the novelties in the intellectual protection sphere, fulfillment of the commitments assumed by Georgia within the international agreements and the importance of legal approval.

“Technological development simplified the practical opportunity of mass production of the counterfeit and piracy copies, which stands as an acute challenge in terms of the protection of the legal interests of the intellectual property right holders; it impedes the extension of local enterprises and professional development of the authors, poses a threat to the full-scale integration of our country to the European and global creative area and damages our trade reputation. The Parliament has designated a thematic rapporteur on the IP rights and we are aspired to further intensify our efforts in supporting the state policy on intellectual property”, - she stated.

The Conference was attended by the representatives of the European and American international organizations and the local private sector, who spoke about the challenges they encounter
