The Chair of the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee, Grigol Liluashvili held the meeting with the Director of the NGO Regional Development Center, Liza Sopromadze to discuss “institutional assessment of municipality”.

The parties spoke about the projects in the municipalities and estimated the institutional changes after the reform – impact of the mayor/governor and Assemblies relations and decisions, balance between the powers of Assemblies and mayors/governors.

“Independence quality of the Governor has been selectively increased. The population is now empowered to require more of the Governor and make him/her implement the demands of the population in the municipality”, - G. Liluashvili stated.

He introduced the draft organic law on Municipal Code aiming at set up of the Administrative Council in the Municipality.

The changes will make decision-making more transparent for higher efficiency of the municipalities.

The parties expressed commitment for cooperation and agreed that the Center will develop the recommendations to submit to the Committee.
