The meeting of Kakha Kuchava and Zaza Khutsishvili with the representatives of “Chiatura Union”

The Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Kakhaber Kuchava and the Deputy Chair, Zaza Khutsishvili met with the representatives of “Chiatura Union” to discuss the problems of Chiatura residents.
The Head of the Union, Member of the First Supreme Council of the Republic of Georgia (1990-1991), Shota Gaprindashvili and the young members of the Union introduced the detailed information about grave situation in Chiatura related to extraction of manganese.
According to the surveys, the process has the negative impact on health of the population and creates the grave situation in environmental terms. There are erosions and flood processes in the area as a result of incorrect extraction of manganese, which entails air pollution etc. The region encounters the ecological catastrophe.
According to K. Kuchava, the problems are diverse and require complex solution. “I am glad that it is our second meeting with the Chiatura Union – the people concerned about the environmental issues of the region. We discussed the problems and solutions. We decided to hold the next field sitting in Chiatura to in situ study the situation, hear the opinion of local residents and think of solutions. I believe, with joint efforts will be achieve positive outcomes”, - he stated.
