The meeting of Levan Berdzenishvili with Frederick Heid-Chamber

Committee on European Integration 20 Jul 2015
The meeting of Levan Berdzenishvili with Frederick Heid-Chamber

The Chair of EU Integration Committee and the Georgia-Britain Friendship Group member met with the expert on research of prospects and expected outcomes of possible membership of Georgia to British Commonwealth, F. Heid-Chamber, being the Chair of EPDI. The meeting was held in BEC organized by “Crystal” fund.

As noted, the annual meeting of the Heads of the Government of British Commonwealth member states is scheduled in November to be held in Malta. Simultaneously, the business forum will be held. “In view to establish relations with the Commonwealth, the Georgian Delegation shall participate in this event. It would be the great opportunity for our country to widely reveal own capacities and privileges; to declare the will of membership and once more express aspiration of Georgia to the values, which are fundamental for the British Commonwealth: democracy, good governance, human rights and rule of law”, - the guests stated.

“The representatives of the Parliament, Government and business will arrive in Malta to study the opportunities given to our country in this situation. This is the unique offer. Georgia has a chance not only to participate in business-forum but to become the member of BC, composed of 57 states. The offer is very interesting, which we will consider and make relevant steps. Relations with BC are necessary. The guest considers Georgia as an integral part of Europe, which is very important”, - L. Berdzenishvili stated.

BEC plans to renew relations with the Parliament suspended in 2012 (due to moving the Parliament to Kutaisi). F. Heid-Chamber arrived on July 20 and will depart on July 22. The meetings are scheduled with the Ministries of Economic and of Foreign Affairs. The meeting was attended by BEC and Crystal chair, A. Bakuradze and CEO, N. Katsiashvili. BEC is an independent, non-profit and non-lobbyist organization with 10 years of experience in Georgia, aiming at constructive dialogue between private and public sectors and facilitation to the Parliament for creation of more favorable business environ.

BEC was established in 2004 with support by EC. In 2007-2012 with patronage by the Speaker, the BEC office was located in the Parliament as an independent platform for Parliamentary dialogue. After moving to Kutaisi, relations have been suspended.
