The Chair of the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, Sofo Kiladze and the Committee member, Levan Bezhanidze met with the convicts of the N11 Juvenile Rehabilitation Department of the Ministry of Corrections.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Corrections Minister, Zviad Mikhanashvili.

S. Kiladze spoke about the penitentiary reforms and future events. She emphasized the opportunities the youth have after leaving Department, including higher and vocational education, integration into society etc. She touched upon the confrontation between the school children on December 1 at Khorava street and spoke about the role of the family, state and society in prevention of such tragedies.

“It is hard to see the young people in the penitentiary department. I believe that the state shall do its best to maximally involve children in education, sports, healthy life-style to prevent them from criminal. It needs reforming. We have unprecedented progress in the juvenile department, and I would like to thank the Minister, Deputy Minister and the Staff for their hard work and devotion to creation of dignified conditions for the children. Naturally, it is the result of the reforming launched since 2012. We have supported the drafts improving conditions for the children. Though, we have no alternative way. Every child shall be protected from penitentiary system”, - she stated.
