The Parliament of Georgia introducing the “Green Initiatives” to the society

Today, the Parliament introduced the presentation of “Green Initiatives of the Parliament” – one of 10 Challenges of the Parliament announced by the Speaker.

The presentation included the legislative initiatives related to the environmental novelties and to be discussed at the autumn session.

The Speaker of the Parliament, H.E. Archil Talakvadze opened the presentation reminding the attendees that the “environment and ecology” is one of the key directions of the Parliamentary agenda.

“We have developed four key initiatives: green lines; Forest Code; emission control; and environmental protection. All four initiatives concern the environmental protection, mitigation of inflicted damage, rational use of resources, green cover and forest resource development, protection and development of the parks – one of the most precious resources of the country – protection of the green environment. We will do our best to adopt the green initiatives of the Parliament and monitor realization of the laws in real life for real outcomes”, - he noted.

The Chair of the Faction “Georgian Dream”, Mamuka Mdinaradze also addressed the attendees: "In the beginning of the autumn session, Mr. Talakvadze held the briefing stating that the Parliament will have 10 challenges during the session and we will report to the society about all of them. They will include the key initiatives developed with engagement of Kakha Kuchava and the Government members. Soon, we will initiate the bills to ensure better future and clean environment for our children”.

The Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Kakha Kuchava introduced four bills under development in the Committee. According to him, “green lines”, “industrial emissions”, “environmental responsibility” and the “Forest Code” are the significant novelties to drastically change the environmental and ecologic situation in the country.

“Environmental protection is the priority for our country and every company is obliged to take care of the environment. These initiatives serve as the legal basis for these companies to operate in line with the high standards so deserved by our country and the population”, - he stated.

The Parliament keeps working on the challenges announced by the Speaker and will introduce the outcomes during the autumn session undertaken in response to these challenges.

The Presentation “Green Initiatives of the Parliament” was held in Tbilisi Hills Golf Residence Hotel and was attended by MPs, international organizations, media and NGOs.
