The Parliamentary Gender Equality Council to develop the Gender Analysis on Pandemic Impact and Damage to the Economics

“The Gender Equality Council, in cooperation with the Prime Minister Office and the NGOs is to develop the gender analysis on pandemic impact and damage to the economics. The survey aims at the estimation of the impact of the pandemic on the economic activity of women and at the development of the recommendations for the Government to be considered in the economic stabilization and restoration programs. It shall serve as an optional instrument for mitigation of the economic damage and effective support for women as a vulnerable group and key manpower in the economics”, - the GEC member, Nino Tsilosani stated at the briefing today.
According to her, “COVID-19”, being a significant challenge to the world healthcare system will also harm the economics. Against the background of reduction of the job opportunities and increase of unemployment, the pandemic consequences as stated in the UN report will have an impact on the sectors with the highest percentage of female employees – services, tourism, restaurants, self-employment etc.
Simultaneously, it increases the possibility of physical and mental violence against women in quarantine. “Hence, the Gender Equality Council as the standing institution aiming at protection of women initiates the surveys and advocacy of these issues”, - she stated.
The plan envisages the issue of the recommendations within the week on behalf of the GEC to mitigate the damage to women.
The recommendations will be communicated with the Government.
