The majority will introduce Giorgi Kvirikashvili to the President, Giorgi Margvelashvili as the candidate to the Prime Minister, as stated by the majority leader, Zviad Kvachantiradze at the majority sitting. “Yesterday, we were holding the consultations in majority about the candidate to the PM in line with the Rules of Procedure and the law and agreed on Giorgi Kvirikashvili”.

Z. Kvachantiradze thanked the acting PM, Irakli Garibashvili for his activity. “I would honestly express my gratitude to you, Mr. Garibashvili for your merit and devotion while occupying the position of the Prime Minister and the leader of the Coalition. Despite of the fact that we are upset about his decision on resignation, we are sure that he will always stand beside us in all our deeds for the favor of our country. Thank you, Mr. Garibashvili for your dignified activity held during the last 2 years”.

After the statement, the sitting resumed in camera to hear Giorgi Kvirikashvili.  

After the sitting, the Speaker, David Usupashvili made the comment. He thanked Irakli Garibashvili for his activity and wished success to Giorgi Kvirikashvili. “I would like to thank my friend, resigning Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili for his activity at this position, for joint struggles while being in the opposition and I am sure that we will do many good deeds in the future. I would like to wish Giorgi Kvirikashvili success. The Parliamentary majority named G. Kvirikashvili as the candidate from our Coalition and I am sure that in the nearest days we will work hard to accomplish this process to have the new Government till the end of the year. G. Kvirikashvili is a very active member of our team from the very first day and the majority votes confidence to him. I am sure that the Parliament, as the institution, will vote confidence too and he will further progress the country being at this position. This change serves to interests of the country and to progress of the country. We remain together in our deeds”.

The acting PM, Irakli Garibashvili wished G. Kvirikashvili and his team good luck. “First of all, I think that the majority, our Coalition has selected a very dignified candidate. Mr. Kvirikashvili is my friend. I would like to wish him success. We spent a lot of time working together prior we came to politics. Now, we worked 3 years and I think that our cooperation was very productive. I would like to wish him success. As to my decision, I think I have made it clear in my speech. I cherished this decision for a long time and as I have noted, I selected the right time for this decision”.

Giorgi Kvirikashvili thanked Irakli Garibashvili and the majority for trust. “First of all, I would like to thank Mr. Garibashvili. We have done many good things together and I was lucky to be the Vice Prime Minister. I would also like to thank him for his trust declared to me. I would also like to thank majority members for they trust, nominating me as the candidate to the Prime Minister. It is the greatest responsibility to the country and to every citizen and I will try my best to due exercise my responsibility”.
