The Deputy Chair of the Education and Science Committee, Baia Kvitsiani and MP Rostom Chkheidze hold meetings in Akhaltsikhe and Akhalkalaki with the central topic of high-quality education for ethnic minorities.
B. Kvitsiani provided the representatives of the educational institutions and NGOs in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region with information on the implementation of the recommendations issued within the thematic inquiry on access to high-quality education for ethnic minorities and reiterated that the Committee spares no effort to fulfill the plans envisaging the provision of ethnic minorities with access to the Georgian language courses.
“We embarked on the monitoring of the recommendations issued within the thematic inquiry on access to high-quality education for ethnic minorities and the meetings we hold are the part of this process. By visiting the regions, we chase the goal of meeting with all persons concerned and introducing the progress we achieved so far. The timeline of this process constitutes a couple of years and we intend to ensure annual monitoring”, - she stated.
According to her, the meeting was productive revealing that the attitude towards the outcomes of the inquiry has been significantly improved.
“It is noteworthy that we found the attitude of our society significantly changed; if initially some NGOs and civil sector manifested their skepticism, today, we witness certain progress and positive attitude. We believe that our collaboration will lead to better results”, - she added.
The thematic inquiry is being held within the NDI Program “Facilitating Accountable and Inclusive Political Decisions in Georgia” and is financially backed by the Good Governance Fund of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
