Gela Samkharauli Held Meeting Within the Framework of an International Research Project

Chair of the Agriculture Committee, Gela Samkharauli, held a meeting with Professor Georg Hainal within the framework of an international research project.
The meeting focused on governance models in Georgia’s agri-food sector, ongoing and planned reforms, as well as key issues related to reducing food loss and waste.
It was noted that the research on agri-food system governance structures and their transformation is being implemented with the support of the headquarters and regional offices of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
“The Committee actively cooperates with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in the area of reducing food loss and waste. Significant progress has already been achieved in this regard: relevant legislation has been developed, donors have been identified, and a food bank has been established. At this stage, work continues to further advance and strengthen this direction”, - G. Samkharauli stated.
He also noted that work is ongoing to further strengthen and expand this direction, and highlighted the importance of municipal involvement in reducing food loss.
The parties agreed to continue future cooperation.
