Irakli Kobakhidze: the decision regarding Gedevan Popkhadze was based on gross violation of the Rules of Procedure and the problem of the team work

Chairman of Parliament 03 Jan 2019
Irakli Kobakhidze: the decision regarding Gedevan Popkhadze was based on gross violation of the Rules of Procedure and the problem of the team work

“Recall of G. Popkhadze is based on two reasons. One reason was the gross violation of the Rules of Procedure and consent of all qualified lawyers that Mr. Popkhadze was elected as the First Deputy Chair of the Legal Committee with gross violation of the Rules of Procedure. The second reason was the problem of team work – it should be discussed by the team”,- the Speaker, Irakli Kobakhidze stated at the Bureau.

This decision should be made as there is no any instance under the Rules of Procedure to determine legitimacy of election of the First Deputy Chair of the Committee and hence, this gap should be eliminated by the instance which could in this case be the Faction. Connection between resignation of Eka Beselia and Gedevan Popkhadze with the issue of the Judges is either the lack of information or the political speculation.

“I hope that we deal with the absence of information. As to resignation of E. Beselia, we have already partially discussed this decision when it was decided, why and how and we can go in more details to inform the society. As to resignation of G. Popkhadze, we have elucidated the reasons. So, I call on you to show interest in the reason or inquire more information and if it is a political speculation, then we’d better abstain from the political speculations”, - the Speaker stated.
