Mariam Jashi: educating the specialists of the European law is of utmost importance for EU integration of Georgia

The Chair of the Education, Science and Culture Committee, Mariam Jashi met with the President of the EPLO Board of Directors, Professor Spyridon Flogaitis.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Georgia to Greece, H.E. Ioseb Nanobashvili and the President of the Caucasus University, Kakha Shengelia.

As M. Jashi noted after the meeting, EPLO unifies 17 countries and has the Head Office in Athens and the branches in Rome and Lisbon. On the basis of the decision of the Board of Directors, EPLO opens its regional branch in Georgia of Trans-Caucasus importance.

“Mr. Flogaitis can offer the greatest experience in international law and namely in the European law. For years, he was the Ministry of European Affairs and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Greece”, - M. Jashi stated.

EPLO branch will be established on the basis of Tbilisi State University and will closely cooperate with Caucasus University.

“The Education Committee supports EPLO Regional Representation and the joint projects to be implemented in cooperation with Tbilisi State University and Caucasus University. We support internationalization of the education system and any initiative of international cooperation, especially with the organizations like EPLO. It is a specialized organization ensuring education of the specialists of the European public law. Educating the specialists of the European law is of utmost importance for EU integration of Georgia”, - she noted.

She underlined the special contribution of Georgian Ambassador to Greece in cooperation with EPLO noting that the Ambassador Nanobashvili backs the projects important for Georgia. It is also important that this initiative is backed by TSU Rector, Giorgi Sharvashidze.

As M. Jashi estimated, she hails active cooperation of Caucasus University and its Rector Kakha Shengelia with EPLO as K. Shengelia is the President of the International Association of the Rectors of Universities in more than 70 countries. EPLO Regional Office is to be open at the beginning of 2020.
