Media and Society 09 ნოემბერი 2021
Olympic and Paralympic Prize-Winners to be admitted to University of Sports without Exams

The members of the Georgian national team who will become gold, silver, or bronze medalists in the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and take first place in the world and European championships, will be able to enroll in the Georgian State Teaching University of Physical Education and Sport without unified national exams.

The mentioned initiative is envisaged in the Bill on Higher Education, which was discussed in the first reading at the Sports and Youth Issues Committee. According to the rapporteur, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Valerian Gobronidze, the requirement of the law will also apply to those athletes who won first place at the Tokyo Olympics and became gold medalists.

At the meeting, the Committee members expressed their views on the draft law and discussed the possibility of making additional changes. The discussion process was attended by the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports and the Rector of the State University of Physical Education and Sports.

The Chairman of the Committee, Mikheil Kavelashvili, offered his colleagues an initiative, according to which the world and European champions will be excluded from the presented bill.

"We can continue the discussion. At this stage, let's leave only the Olympic and Paralympic prize-winners, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympic prize-winners, and discuss the world and European champions in the future”, - Mikheil Kavelashvili stated.

The members of the Committee voted in favor of the initiative of the Chairman of the Committee.
