Chairman of Parliament 20 Sep 2022
Shalva Papuashvili Submitting Candidate of Auditor General to Plenary Session

"Tsotne Kavlashvili is truly an example of what a professional and conscientious civil servant should be, and on the other hand, an example of the fact that integrity and professionalism are valued in public service and a person has the opportunity to advance in his career", - the Speaker stated at today’s Plenary Session, where he submitted the candidacy of Tsotne Kavlishvili for the Auditor General of the State Audit Service.

Shalva Papuashvili thanked the acting general auditor, Irakli Mekvabishvili, for his work.

"Today, the Audit Service is deserving of the highest ratings based on all impartial assessments. In specifically, the State Audit Service earned 3.4 out of a possible 4 points in the joint review conducted by the EU and the OECD in 2022. Georgia's State Audit Service received an evaluation of 9.5 out of a possible 10 points on the World Bank's independence index. Irakli Mekvabishvili and all State Audit Service personnel have earned my sincere gratitude for these outcomes", said the Chairman of the Parliament.

According to Shalva Papuashvili, Tsotne Kavlashvili, who has a long experience of working in the public service, possesses detailed knowledge related to the field.

"Tsotne Kavlashvili spent many years working for the Ministry of Finance. He is an illustration of a professional and diligent civil servant who, in 15 years, advanced from an ordinary specialist to a Deputy Minister. He has extensive experience in this field and has managed audit activities in his role as Deputy Minister. He has been the State Treasury's director since 2013 as well. Additionally, Mr. Tsotne has a wealth of expertise working with international organizations, donors, and financial structures”, - Shalva Papuashvili remarked.

The Speaker called both the majority and the opposition to support Tsotne Kavlishvili.

"Since the State Audit Service is a crucial tool for every member of parliament, perhaps especially for the representatives of the opposition, I would like to urge my colleagues to support Tsotne Kavlashvili's candidacy, both the majority and the opposition. This would be a good beginning for constructive cooperation", - the Speaker noted.
