The Parliament adopted the Bill on Amnesty

The Parliament discussed with the III reading and adopted with 87 votes against 1 the Bill on Amnesty.
In the course of countering the global pandemic, the Government, in view to compensate for the restrictions established for the prisoners, reduces the sentences for the convicts for crimes stipulated under the Criminal Code as a single-manner remedy and re-calculates their term in the penitential department.
Besides, providing the public threat quality, the convicts committing some crimes stipulated under the Criminal Code shall be released from a penalty and the term in the penitentiary department for the convicts with life imprisonment shall be recognized as a service in a different manner.
According to the Chair of the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, Mikheil Sarjveladze, after the III reading at the Committee, editorial remarks have been introduced to the Bill. The Bill shall become effective on the third business day upon promulgation.
