Plenary 10 Jun 2021
Parliament Endorsing Changes to Law on Information Security with III Reading

The Parliament adopted the bill on the scheduled amendments to the Law on Information Security with 77 votes to 2.

Prior to the vote, the Speaker, Kakha Kutchava elucidated that a meeting with experts on the bill was held ten days ago.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the embassies, with the help of whom the draft was developed.

"It has been decided that we will adopt the bill, however, there are still some issues that need to be harmonized with the EU directive. Therefore, the work will continue within the working group. A new legislative change will be elaborated, which we will be adopted in an accelerated manner, if necessary, in order to harmonize cyber-security issues with the European directive”, - K. Kutchava remarked.

Prior to the vote, the deadline for enactment of the law was adjusted to December 30, 2021.

According to the project, the subjects of the critical information system will be divided into 3 categories.

The document also envisages defining the powers of the Operational-Technical Agency in the process of introducing information security and cyber-security.

In addition, the bill implies the imposition of administrative sanctions for violating the requirements of information security legislation.
