The Draft Election Code adopted for the I reading

Plenary 03 Apr 2024
The Draft Election Code adopted for the I reading

The Parliament discussed for the I reading and adopted the Draft Election Code with 80 votes against 13.

According to the reporter, the Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Givi Mikanadze, the amendments comprise three aspects, namely, the electors shall be enrolled to the special list providing the outcomes of the military conscription - no later than on the 11th day prior to the polling day. A new concept is being introduced to the Code – “delegate”, and the party shall be entitled but not obliged to indicate the number of the Electoral District in regard to the certain candidate for MP in the proportional list. Besides, a candidate shall be recognized elected to the City Assembly on the basis of the majoritarian system if he/she obtains more real votes.

“Our initiative envisages that a certain single mandate MP shall be elected with the majority of real votes in the first round, which will accelerate the recognition of the activities and authorities of the City Assemblies”, - he stated.
