Parliament Adopts Amendment to the Law on the Georgian Intelligence Service in Third Reading

Parliament adopted, in the third reading and with 81 votes in favour, the amendments to the Law of Georgia on the Intelligence Service of Georgia.
The amendments provide for the transformation of the current Intelligence Service, which operates as a special-purpose institution under the direct subordination of the Prime Minister, into a public sub-agency under the governance of the State Security Service – the National Intelligence Agency.
The revised law also introduces new regulations concerning the agency’s operations and competences, its composition, organisation and structure, the inadmissibility of interference in the official duties of agency personnel, and guarantees of their legal protection. Furthermore, it defines the legal status and social protection of individuals who cooperate(d) with the agency confidentially, as well as provisions related to the agency's funding.
