Parliament Adopted the draft Railway Code at III Reading

At a plenary session, the Parliament of Georgia considered and adopted, at III reading, the draft Railway Code of Georgia. The draft law was presented by the First Deputy Economy and Sustainable Development Minister, Nino Enukidze.
The draft law clarifies the definition of a “railway track” and introduces a new term — “main railway track”, which is defined as a railway line intended for the transportation of freight and/or passengers between border railway crossings, railway stations and/or seaports.
The amendments also establish restrictions on the alienation of existing main railway tracks owned by the state and/or held in the capital of an enterprise with state shareholding; and the protective zones associated with such railway infrastructure, an exception is permitted only where the relevant property is contributed to the capital of an enterprise in which the state holds more than a 50 percent ownership interest.
The draft law was supported by 81 Members of Parliament.
