The Parliament approved the composition of the Parliamentary Competition Commission for the Selection of the Candidates for the Trustees - Members of the Board of Trustees of the Public Broadcaster

Plenary 22 Mar 2024
The Parliament approved the composition of the Parliamentary Competition Commission for the Selection of the Candidates for the Trustees - Members of the Board of Trustees of the Public Broadcaster

The Parliament, with 80 votes for, 2 against, approved the Draft Resolution on the “Endorsement of the Composition of the Parliamentary Competition Commission for the Selection of the Candidates for the Trustees - Members of the Board of Trustees of the Public Broadcaster”, introduced by the Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili.

The candidates nominated are: David Maglaperidze, Mako Jaoshvili, Goderdzi Sharashia, Nino Meunargia, Otar Tatishvili, Nino Kakulia, Gedevan Jincharadze, Mariam Gvidiani and Givi Abesadze.

“There are three vacant positions in the Board of Trustees of the Public Broadcaster. The consultations resulted in the short-list. The opposition also proposed to nominate their candidates to the Commission, however, no candidates were named. The Public Defender as well nominated his candidate”, - the Speaker stated.

The Opposition MP, Levan Bezhashvili asked to include Eka Tsamalashvili in the Commission, however, his request was rejected.

“They had time and capacity enough to nominate their candidate. However, at this moment, it would be a correct manner to withdraw any person from an already set-up composition”, - the Speaker elucidated.

According to the Majority, MP, the Chair of the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, Rati Ionatamishvili, the consultations between the parliamentary subjects were actively upheld. It was scheduled to hold voting at the previous plenary but due to the very reason of the absence of a final decision of the opposition, the issue was postponed to today’s session.

“We truly aspired for the opposition to be engaged but regrettably, they have not nominated their candidates yet and hence, the composition of nine members is already agreed”, - he stated.
