Georgian Parliamentary Delegation Participated in the 51st Annual Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie

A parliamentary delegation of Georgia, comprising Vice Speaker of the Parliament Giorgi Kakhiani and Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze, is participating in the 51st Annual Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF) in Yaoundé.

The annual session opened with meetings of the Assembly’s standing committees. The Georgian parliamentary delegation participated in the meeting of the Political Affairs Committee, during which representatives of member states had the opportunity to present developments, achievements and current challenges in their respective countries.

During the Committee meeting, the Head of the Georgian delegation, Giorgi Kakhiani, addressed the participants, providing an overview of the political situation in Georgia, the reforms implemented by the Government, and the key challenges facing the country.

He also spoke about the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories, the Russian Federation’s illegal occupation, human rights violations, and the ongoing process of so-called “borderization”.

Giorgi Kakhiani further underscored the importance of continued international support and adherence to the fundamental principles of international law in the process of peacefully restoring Georgia’s territorial integrity.

He stressed the necessity of respecting Georgia’s sovereign right to independently determine the course of its domestic and foreign policy. He also highlighted the country’s economic progress and Georgia’s growing role in regional transit and energy initiatives, including the development of the Middle Corridor. According to him, Georgia’s policy based on peace, stability and cooperation has strengthened the country’s international standing and enhanced its attractiveness as an investment destination.

In his remarks, the Head of the delegation also highlighted Georgia’s contribution to promoting peace and stability in the South Caucasus, including its support for dialogue and cooperation between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Giorgi Kakhiani also drew attention to Georgia’s support for Ukraine and the humanitarian assistance it has provided, noting that contemporary international challenges can only be addressed through dialogue, cooperation and respect for the fundamental principles of international law.
