Meeting of the Working Group on the Protection and Development of the State Language Held in Parliament

A meeting of the Working Group on the Protection and Development of the State Language, established under the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, was held in Parliament.

During the meeting, members of the working group discussed existing challenges related to the protection and development of the state language, as well as possible solutions to address them.

Particular attention was paid to opportunities for improving the Organic Law of Georgia on the State Language, ensuring compliance with the norms of the Georgian literary language and terminological standards in advertising signs and other public inscriptions, and addressing challenges associated with the digitization of Georgian language standards.

The Chair of the Working Group and Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Mariam Lashkhi, spoke about the importance of the state language and noted that the Georgian language is one of the most significant foundations of Georgia’s statehood, national identity, and cultural uniqueness.

According to her, in the era of rapid technological advancement and artificial intelligence, particular importance is attached to the full integration of the Georgian language into the digital space, which requires the development of new approaches based on practical experience.

“The objective of the working group is to ensure the protection of the norms of the Georgian literary language and terminological standards, standardize the digitization of Georgian literary language norms, and organize relevant activities aimed at the possible improvement of the Organic Law of Georgia on the State Language”, - Mariam Lashkhi stated.

Members of the working group also discussed the needs and challenges of various state institutions and agreed on priorities for future cooperation.
