Georgian Parliamentary Delegation Servers Official Visit to Azerbaijan

A delegation of the Parliament of Georgia, composed of the Chair of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee Shota Berekashvili, Head of the Georgia-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group Givi Mikanadze, and Committee members Anton Obolashvili and Levan Machavariani, is paying a working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Within the framework of the visit, the delegation held meetings with Chair of the Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship Committee of the Milli Majlis Azer Amiraslanov and committee members; Head of the Azerbaijan-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship Group Arzu Nagiyev and group members; Chair of the Science and Education Committee Anar Iskandarov; Chair of the Youth and Sports Committee Shahin Ismayilov; and Chair of the Labour and Social Policy Committee Musa Guliyev.

The parties reviewed the existing friendly relations and avenues for cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan.

The discussions particularly focused on the deepening of economic relations between the two countries and on strategic projects of mutual significance that aim to ensure sustainable economic growth in both states.

Strategic areas of cooperation were addressed, including the development of transport and transit capacities, which are of particular importance in the context of the “Middle Corridor”. In this regard, emphasis was placed on strengthening railway connections, the potential of the Anaklia Port, and the high-speed highway project, all of which are essential for fully utilising the Middle Corridor's potential. Particular attention was also given to the energy sector and the Black Sea Submarine Cable Project, which serves to strengthen the energy partnership with the European Union.

In addition, the meetings covered the tourism sector as a vital component of bilateral cooperation and the information technology sector, which has the potential to significantly contribute to the economic development of both countries. The role of active companies operating in both markets was underlined as essential to advancing bilateral economic ties. Legislative reforms and initiatives supporting economic growth—an ongoing focus of the parliamentary committee—were also highlighted.

Special attention was given to the importance of implementing the planned youth exchange camps in July and August.

In conclusion, the shared assessment highlighted that both countries are committed to fully harnessing existing opportunities in order to secure long-term stability and sustainable development.

The meetings were also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Zurab Pataradze.
