Meeting of the Opposition MPs with the OSCE PA President

Media and Society 15 Nov 2023
Meeting of the Opposition MPs with the OSCE PA President

The Opposition MPs held a meeting with the OSCE PA President, Mme. Pia Kauma.

The central topics of the conversation were the security issues in the country, the reforms within the EU candidate status, and the forthcoming Parliamentary Elections of 2024, as well as the developments in the region and the situation in the occupied regions of Georgia.

“The murder of the Georgian citizen, Tamaz Ginturi at the occupation line shall be severely and strictly assessed by OSCE. The situation of the Georgian citizens on the occupied territories is the gravest. Besides, it is crucial to counter Russian disinformation since according to one of the reservations issued to Georgia, we need to take efficient steps against the Russian disinformation. In view of holding the free and fair elections, it is important to observe not only on the E-day but in the pre-election period”, - the member of the Political Group “EuroOptimists”, Khatia Dekanoidze noted.

According tot eh Chair of the “Reforms Group”, Khatuna Samnidze, OSCE PA intends to dispatch the observers to Georgia 4-5 months prior to the elections.

“At the meeting, we accentuated the upcoming parliamentary elections since it is a key challenge for 2024. Deriving from the budget, it is evident that the Government concentrates on the intensification of the programs allowing the manipulations. The database of the socially vulnerable persons is being increased and the costs increase pro rata. It is interesting to hear the conversations about the use of the old IDs instead of the new IDs, which constitutes a theat. It is paramount to have a long-term observation process in Georgia since the elections are not fraud only on the elections day”, - she noted.
