Meeting of Opposition MPs with Members of PACE Monitoring Committee

Media and Society 03 Jun 2021
Meeting of Opposition MPs with Members of PACE Monitoring Committee

Representatives of the parliamentary opposition met with members of the PACE Monitoring Committee.

At the meeting, the MPs briefed the guests on the current political situation in the country and the ongoing political processes in the Parliament.

Special attention was attached to the issues covered by the Charles Michel Document and the steps to be taken in this direction. The parties put a spotlight on constitutional changes, the current situation in the judiciary and the need for changes in this direction.

"Judicial reform outlined in the Charles Michel Document is of great importance for how political processes will develop in the future and for the extent to which Georgia will fulfill its democratic commitments to the Council of Europe”, - David Bakradze remarked.

"Despite the specific agreement written in the Charles Michel document, new members of the High Council of Justice have been appointed, just as the government intends to grant amnesty to everyone, while the agreement provided it only for politicized cases”, - Zura Japaridze stated.

The parties touched upon the situation in Ninotsminda and the media environment in the country.

"The problem of Ninotsminda Boarding School is the issue that should be the number one problem today. It has to be raised especially before those partners who monitor the ongoing processes in the country. Today we have boarding houses that should not exist in the country”, - Khatuna Samnidze commented.

David Bakradze, Khatuna Samnidze, and Zurab Japaridze participated in the meeting.
