Chairman of Parliament 23 Feb 2024
Shalva Papuashvili: the devoted battle of the cadets against the occupation shall never be forgotten and the liberation of our country from the occupation shall be finalized

In commemoration of the Georgian cadets fallen in the fight for the integrity of Georgia against the Russian Army in 1921, the Speaker, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili; the Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze; the Defense Minister, Irakli Chikovani; Tbilisi Mayor, Kakha Kaladze; the Chair of Tbilisi City Assembly, Giorgi Tkemaladze and Members of Parliament laid the wreath on the Memorial to the Cadets in the yard of the Parliament.

“Today, we pay tribute to the fallen cadets – young boys and girls, who fought against the Soviet occupation and fell in the battle against the Red Army.

This day always reminds us that the Georgian nation is never tolerating to be subordinated, occupied, to be a country considered as a part or a province.

Thus, this spirit of fighting, craving for a battle always dwells in the Georgian people. This day also reminds us of the day of the occupation of our territories. The devoted battle of the cadets against the occupation shall never be forgotten and the liberation of our country from the occupation shall be finalized, which shall ultimately lead to the integrity of our country”, - the Speaker stated.

The memorial service for the cadets has been served in the Annunciation Chapel of the Parliament attended by the Speaker, MPs and the descendants of the cadets. On February 23, 1921, most of the Georgian cadets fell in an unequal battle against the 11th squad of the Soviet Army.
