As part of his visit to Brussels, the Speaker, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili held his first meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary-General Mircea Joanna, focusing on Russian military aggression in Ukraine and long-term, NATO-Georgia close cooperation.

The conversation also touched upon the importance of peace and stability in the region and the tangible steps to be taken in this direction.

"We got the opportunity to meet with the NATO Deputy Secretary-General on our visit to Brussels, which was crucial. Especially in light of the current scenario in the region. We discussed security threats, especially with regard to Georgia. It's critical that Russia's aggression against Ukraine comes to an end quickly, and their opinions in this regard were interesting. Negotiations are currently underway, with the aim of a good conclusion. Georgia has been and continues to be a staunch NATO ally. We have a long history of working with NATO and stand shoulder to shoulder in terms of security. During this period of crisis, it is critical that this alliance remains active in terms of communication and meetings”, - the Speaker stated.
