The former Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee introduced the report on activity for 2012-2014. As he stated, due to some reasons, the activity of the Committee was actually paralyzed during the preceding Parliament, so the Committee restored activity in 2012.

“The first thing Committee did was care for restoration of the functions for the Ministry of Environmental Protection and in a couple of weeks, the Parliament regained important rights to the Ministry, after which the Ministry and the Committee undertook joint activity in this sphere”.

The Committee developed 159 drafts, 2 conventions, some international agreements. He spoke about sundry draft adoption of which improved situation in this sphere: on Creation and Management of Natural Monuments; on Fee for Usage of Natural Resources; National Forest Concept; Creation and Management of Pshav-Khevsureti Protected Areas; Waste Management Code etc.

The Committee signed the memorandum on cooperation with schools and environmental organizations, held field sittings in Tkibuli, Chiatura and Lagodekhi. As he noted, with support by EU and UNDP, the Committee developed the action plan for 2 years the presentation was which was planned. “This is the unique project for enhancement of Committee capacity. I hope, regardless of the future Chair of the Committee, he/she will not deviate from this path”.

He expressed his hope that the new Chair will implement many important activities based on the report. “I can state that I, at some extent, resign with no debts left. Free Democrats have never deviated from 1 October values and will continue this way. We will constantly control the Governmental and Parliamentary activities”. In the end, he thanked the Committee staff for productive cooperation.
