The Foreign Relations and Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committees and the Interim Commission on Territorial Integrity heard the report by the State Minister, Paata Zakareishvili

The Minister spoke about illegitimate elections in Abkhazia and the post-election situation. Giorgi Volski stated that there are many questions, opinions and speculations about the situation in Abkhazia after so-called Presidential. The situation is no good. Human relations remain but political angle is dead. When the process is halted, we get the marsh which cannot give birth to the future generations.
The Minister evaluated the situation in Abkhazia and stated that the de-facto Government is to be formed according to the composition of which we can shape out the direction of the vector. He stated that taking Ukraine events into account, the Abkhazians realize that they cannot hope for independence. We shall make our country more attractive for them. “After Crimea events everyone understands the perspectives of Russia in terms of independence of Abkhazia. Against this background, we shall be the guarantee that security, identity and future of Abkhazia will be protected. Time will come when we start speaking with them about our offers. We have the vision how to maximally protect Abkhazian identity. We shall restore the bridges, trust and then speak about political issues”.
EU AA and visa liberalization are interested for population of occupied territories. There is the interest to Georgian documents on EU integration and visa liberalization. The interest is increased to Georgian passport with the prospect to become the European passport. As soon as we have visa liberalization, I am sure demand for Georgian passport will increase. He raised the issue for the Parliament to resume consideration of the draft on Occupied Territories. He answered the questions.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of Abkhazia AR Government and Supreme Council, Executive representatives and NGOs. As G. Volski stated, the Minister will deliver his report in October again. The Parliament also expects Geneva delegation Head in October.
