The joint press-conference by Vakhtang Khmaladze and European Experts

Legal Issues Committee 25 Sep 2014
The joint press-conference by Vakhtang Khmaladze and European Experts

The Chair of Legal Committee and the experts Joseph Cannataci and Graham Sutton held the meetings on so-called intercepting. Participants of the consideration were legislative, executive and judicial representatives, NGOs, public defender representatives, personal data protection inspector and CoE experts.

After the meetings the joint press-conference was held. “The Parliament works on the drafts for two years, concerning so-called intercepting regulation. Until today any person was unprotected from illegal interference in personal life. The Parliament accomplished the first stage on August 1. Now other issues are under consideration concerning the venue of storage of identification data of TV communication companies” – V. Khmaladze stated.

According to him, many interesting and new opinions have been expressed. Development of the draft cannot be soon accomplished and higher attention will be attached to external control mechanisms by the PDP inspector, accountable to the Parliament. He spoke about the approaches expressed – two so-called keys shall exist for switching to intercepting systems, which shall be simultaneously turned. The experts gave the positive evaluation to this approach. They issued recommendations and expressed their commitment to be involved in working process.
