The parties spoke about bilateral relations.

Gubaz Sanikidze: “Romanians well understand our problems as both countries shared same fate during the centuries. We also have Anthim the Iberian, the Saint that both nations are proud of. When no one believed that Georgia would gain independence, Romania was one of the first recognizing our independence. And today, when Georgia encounters numerous challenges, Romanian support is very important for us and sharing Romanian experience in EU integration process is particularly important”.

Ana Birchall noted that Romania Parliament was one of the first supporting Georgia’s EU association. Romania recognizes and supports territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia. “We indeed live the regions full of difficulties, so we need each other’s support and coordinated action to overcome the crisis in neighborhood”.

The parties spoke about economic cooperation perspectives. As noted, Parliaments can play important role in this process. The parties agreed that Georgia and Romania, deriving from geopolitical location and existing relations, have the potential to start conversation about implementation of joint projects between Europe and East and Parliamentary diplomacy plays important role in this process.
